5 Ways to Reset Your Training and Set Powerful Martial Arts Goals
Hey everyone!
I hope you’re all doing amazing and feeling positive as we start a new year.
If you aren’t it’s ok. Sometimes, we hit that point where our training starts to feel a little… stuck. Whether you’ve been training for years or you’re just getting started, it’s totally normal to need a reset every now and then.
The good news? A reset doesn’t mean starting over. It means realigning your focus, refreshing your mindset, and getting excited about your martial arts journey again!
With that in mind, I thought I would give you my top five ways to hit that reset button and set some powerful, game-changing goals for your training for 2025.
1. Reflect on Your Why Take a moment to ask yourself: Why did I start martial arts in the first place? Whether it was for fitness, self-defense, discipline, or just the love of movement, reconnecting with your purpose is a fantastic way to reignite your passion. Write down your ‘why’ and place it somewhere you can see it every day!
2. Set SMART Goals You’ve probably heard of SMART goals before (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound), but have you actually applied them to your martial arts training? Instead of saying “I want to get better at kicking,” try “I will improve my side kick height by 5 inches in the next 3 months by practicing 3 times a week.” Breaking down your goals makes them more achievable and keeps you motivated.
3. Try Something New Sometimes, all it takes to reignite your passion is to step outside of your comfort zone. Try a new style, learn a new trick, or switch up your training routine. Challenging yourself in different ways, can bring a fresh perspective and keep things exciting.
4. Create a Routine You LOVE Consistency is key, but that doesn’t mean your training has to feel like a chore. Find a schedule that fits your lifestyle and fills you with excitement. Whether it’s morning stretches, evening sparring, or weekend open mat sessions, make it something you look forward to! Create a playlist you love on the CBA and stick at it. Change up the session type, make it fun and interesting and if you are stuck with what to do, don’t forget I launch a new monthly training guide the start of every month.
5. Surround Yourself with Positive Energy Your training environment plays a huge role in your success. Surround yourself with people who uplift and inspire you—whether it’s your training partners, instructors, or online communities. Having a supportive network keeps you accountable and pushes you to achieve more than you thought possible. You can check out our community here.
So, if you’ve been feeling like you’re in a bit of a rut, know that it’s okay. We all go through it. The most important thing is to take that first step towards resetting and refocusing your goals.
I’d love to hear how you’re planning to reset your training! Drop a message in the community above or tag me in your progress online—I’m here to cheer you on every step of the way!
Let’s make this year our best training year yet!
Stay strong,
